Semana Santa in Costa Rica: Essential Guide to Playa Ventanas🇨🇷

Semana Santa in Costa Rica: Essential Guide to Playa Ventanas

In this video, we’re taking you to the stunning Playa Ventanas on the South Pacific coast to show you what happens when an entire country decides to hit the beach at the exact same time. What to Expect During Semana Santa The Great Migration: During this week, the Central Valley and cities like San José practically empty out. It feels like the whole country moves toward the coast, so expect heavy traffic and packed sands! Deep Traditions: While many come for the sun, the religious roots of the holiday remain strong. You’ll see colorful processions in local towns and plenty of traditional food, like miel de chiverre (a sweet squash preserve) and seafood-heavy dishes. The Crowds at Playa Ventanas: Known for its famous sea caves (the “windows”), this beach is a fan favorite. We’ll show you how to navigate the crowds, where to find a spot for your towel, and why the energy during this week is unlike any other time of year. Tips for Visiting Arrive Early: If you aren’t at the beach by 8:00 AM, finding parking at Ventanas during Semana Santa is a challenge. Stock Up: Grocery stores in coastal towns can get picked over quickly—buy your essentials before you leave the city. Respect the “Ley Seca”: While laws vary by municipality now, some areas still restrict alcohol sales on specific days of Holy Week. Check local regulations before you plan your cooler! Are you brave enough to tackle the Semana Santa crowds, or do you prefer the “Pura Vida” peace of the off-season? Let us know in the comments!
