Five years. It is hard to believe that five years ago, I quit my job, sold my house and my stuff ,packed a couple of suitcases, hopped on a plane, and moved to Costa Rica. When you make a leap that big, you might think you have an idea of what to expect. But the truth is, living here will change you in ways you never saw coming.
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on why I love this life so much after half a decade. So today, I wanted to sit down, pour a cup of coffee, and share the 11 real reasons why I love my life here. And stick around until the end, because the absolute biggest shift isn’t what’s around me—it’s what changed inside me.
Entounces, Vamos!
Reason number one: The wildlife.
It’s one thing to watch a nature documentary on TV; it’s another thing entirely to have a troop of monkeys casually moving through your backyard while you stand there drinking your morning coffee.
Human beings can adapt to almost anything, but you have to actively refuse to let this become ordinary. Having monkeys, toucans, or vibrant Blue Morpho butterflies right outside your door is a daily reality check. It forces you to stop, look up, and realize just how wild and beautiful your everyday environment is. Every single time I see the wonders that surround me, I’m reminded of one simple truth: I am very lucky to live here.
Number two: The mornings.
In Costa Rica, the morning isn’t just a time of day—it’s the absolute best part of the day. The sun comes up early, the jungle wakes up loud, and there is this incredible, crisp energy to the first few hours of light. I’ve always felt that starting the day with clear intention, getting some movement in, and soaking up that early stillness sets the entire trajectory for your mindset. It’s simple: If you win the morning, you win the day.
Number three- It never gets cold
—and this one is a massive relief:. You can officially say goodbye to scraping ice off windshields, packing heavy winter coats, shoveling snow and dealing with frozen fingers and toes. That wears on you after a few decades. Living in perpetual warmth completely changes your relationship with the outdoors. There is a distinct mental freedom that comes with knowing you can walk out the door in shorts and a T-shirt every single day of the year. Ride your bike, go out kayaking or hiking, all options are on the table. The climate keeps you active, keeps you moving, and keeps you connected to the environment instead of being trapped indoors waiting for Spring to get here..
Number four –
Moving here gave me a completely new purpose in life
This one is huger. Moving here gave me a completely new purpose in life. Sometimes you have to leave a familiar environment to discover what you are truly capable of building. Moving here wasn’t just a change of address; it was a total reinvention. Finding a new mission—whether it’s creating content that connects people, sharing the reality of life here, or building something meaningful from scratch—gives you a real reason to wake up with fire in your belly every morning.
With this YouTube channel and the business I have built around it, my life is very full, very busy, but very happy to be.
Number five-Friendships
is all about community: I have found so many great friends here. They say the quality of your life is directly tied to the quality of the people you share it with, and there is a unique bond formed among the people who make things happen in this environment. I have a massive appreciation for my friends here, especially those who run local businesses. It takes incredible grit, hustle, and late hours to build a successful business in Costa Rica. Seeing your friends put in that sweat and passion inspires you. Being able to support them, lock arms with them, and watch them succeed is honestly one of the greatest rewards of living here.
Number six: Forced me out of my comfort Zone
It has forced me completely out of my comfort zone. Look, growth and comfort cannot coexist. If you want to grow, you have to be willing to get uncomfortable. Moving to a foreign country forces you to solve new problems, adapt to a completely different pace, and figure things out on the fly. It tests your patience and it tests your resilience. But every single time you step out of your comfort zone, your world gets a little bit bigger, and you realize you are much tougher and more adaptable than you ever thought.
Number seven: The Coffee.
And let me say this, you haven’t truly experienced coffee until you’ve had it grown, harvested, and roasted right in the mountains near you. It’s way more than just a quick caffeine kick; it’s a daily ritual. The family that makes the coffee I drink are very good friends of mine.Knowing the care, tradition, and hard work that local farms put into every single bean makes that morning cup taste entirely different. It’s a direct, grounded connection to the land and the local culture.
“I don’t drink coffee to wake up, I wake up to drink coffee!”
Number eight ……is you
—Yes I am talking to you watching this video, my YouTube friends. The Good Vibe Tribe. When you first start sharing your story online, you have no idea who is going to listen, or if anyone will. As I often say, building a YouTube channel isn’t about numbers; it’s about the community of like-minded people who rally around it. The support, the comments, and the shared connection with the viewers creates a true global neighborhood. Knowing that the videos are bringing real value to people live’s creates this incredible loop of gratitude that keeps me going.
Number nine- The Rain
This one might surprise a few people: The rain. Most people think a sunny day is the only beautiful weather, but the green season here has its own soul. There is something incredibly therapeutic about a massive tropical downpour. It cools the air, brings the jungle to life in a vibrant explosion of green, and honestly, it forces you to slow down. The rain is a reminder that nature needs time to recharge, reset, and grow—and so do we.
Number 10: The local culture and community.
The true Pura Vida vibe. It’s one thing to visit a place as a tourist, but it’s another thing entirely to be welcomed into a community that truly knows how to live. There is an undeniable warmth to the local culture. Whether it’s the friendly smile from the vendors at the twice weekly farmers market or the genuine, unhurried “Buenos días” from neighbors on the street, the culture reminds you every single day to slow down. It’s a community built on mutual respect and a shared appreciation for the simple things, which makes you feel grounded and truly at home.
And finally, number 11: It has opened my eyes to another way of living.
Like I said at the beginning, the biggest shift after five years isn’t what’s around me—it’s what’s inside me. Living here completely shatters the old, rigid script of how life “has” to be lived. It teaches you to value time over status, connection over consumerism, and peace over pace. It shows you that you can step off the hamster wheel, build a life entirely on your own terms, and find fulfillment in the simple, real things.
Five years ago, I took a leap. Today, I can tell you it was the best decision I ever made.
